Two women was sitting at a bar. One listened as the other talked about how she hated all men. How her first long-term relationship with her boyfriend was physical and verbally abusive towards her.
Said: “When I finally left him and after a while started dating again, I found another man and believed that we were a perfect fit for each other, and although I assumed things were going well, he cheated on me.
I thought somehow that it was my fault, so I gave him another chance, and he did it again.
After I left him, I realized this was the same thing that had happened to my mom. My dad cheated on her, and she gave him another chance. He cheated many times thereafter before she had the courage to move on.
I’ve been dating a guy for a few months now, and he called me the other day and just ended us. Now, all-of-a-sudden saying that we are not compatible, and that we should both move on. I hate all men".
There, sitting next to the woman was a man who overheard all the words of the woman. As he takes another sip from his glass, he turns to the woman and says: “Excuse me, and I am sorry, but I’ve heard your words which led you to hate all men.
I work hard at all that I do and treat all women with respect. I open doors, pull out chairs, allow the woman to go first, give-up my seat, say good morning, good afternoon, and goodnight. I say thank you and you’re welcome. I think myself a good man. So, can I ask this of you: what have I done?”
The woman, seeing the man’s face in despair, felt remorse for a moment. She could see he was maybe a good man or at the very least strives to be.
She turned up her drink, finishing it. Takes the woman’s hand who was sitting next to her while getting up from her stool. she then looks back at the man with a caring face and spoke saying: “Not enough.” As she turns her head away from him to leave, she says softer: “somehow, not enough.”
The man turns his head back to the bartender while asking for a refill. Stuck in his thoughts, thinking himself to be a good man, and why no one wants a good man.
He looks up while asking the bartender for a refill. Still in his thoughts wondering why it was so hard for him to get a date; and when he finally did and was in a relationship, why it had always failed.
He finishes his drink as he reflects on what the woman had said. He realizes that being a good man is not enough. He softly asks the bartender for a refill and says to himself, “I hate all women.”
